See How Easily You Can Get Cool Costumes in Poptropica

Apr30

One of the best things about Poptropica is the Costumizer feature, which allows you to immediately copy just about any costume you see a Poptropican wearing while you adventure around the islands on your quests. Although most of the outfits that Poptropicans are wearing are kind of ordinary, there are some really great costumes that you can find on some of the starter islands. All of them are pretty easy to get and don’t require too much effort. A little later, I’ll highlight some extremely cool costumes to find in some of the more advanced islands like Astro-Knights and Counterfeit Island, but for now let’s stick with the easy ones! Note: If you’re not already familiar with the Costumizer feature, be sure to take a look at this Poptropica Costumizer Tutorial to learn the basics on how to copy costumes in the game. Shark Boy Who doesn’t love Shark Boy? This is a great costume to get and it even comes complete with a dorsal fin. Plus, Shark Boy is ridiculously easy to find. Just go to Shark Tooth Island and walk over to the Shark Museum on the right. Go inside and you’ll find Shark Boy looking mighty depressed at the bottom of the museum. One quick click on the Costumizer and this shark outfit is all yours. Fish not included. You’ll find Shark Boy inside the Museum on Shark Tooth Island. Leonardo da Vinci This one is probably the easiest to get. In Early Poptropica Island, there’s a Pop Art museum just to the left. Walk inside and you’ll get to meet Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh. You can costumize any of them, but unfortunately you’ll learn something very important about the costumizer: you can’t costumize facial hair. Although the Leonardo look is a little incomplete without the cool beard, the outfit is kind of nice. It looks best with the jet pack you get up in the clouds near the giant. Leonardo would have loved to fly this way. I’m not sure Leonardo da Vinci had this in mind when inventing his flying machine. Viking Armor This one’s a little more challenging than the others, but still pretty easy to get. Head to Time Tangled Island and start your quest. There are a few steps you need to do before you can get this one. They are: Using your compass, go to the Statue of Liberty in 1882 A.D. Climb up to the very top platform of the wooden stilts. Jump to your left. You will land on a ledge. You’ll find a notebook is on the ledge below that. Use your compass to travel to da Vinci’s workshop in 1516 A.D. Go inside the workshop and find da Vinci (the guy with the beard) and give him the notebook. He’ll give you a glider as a reward. Use your compass to travel to the Viking times in 831 A.D. Jump up the tall mountain to the right of the beach. Put on the glider . Stand as close to the edge as you can and leap to the right. If you’re wearing the glider, you’ll float to another ledge and the armor will be waiting for you there. Now you’re ready to lead your viking army into battle! Ah, the Viking life. Mountain Climber Gear This costume is also in Time Tangled Island, and it’s a little easier to get than the Viking Armor. For this one, just head to 1953 A.D. and then start climbing up the mountain. You’ll need to navigate over some ledges and chasms. Once you get near the top, you’ll also want to watch out for falling icicles, but overall it’s not too difficult to get there. You’ll arrive on top of the world and find two mountain climbers at the peak. One of them is Sir Edmund Hillary and the other is his sherpa, Tenzing Norgay. This costume is actually a combination of the two. For some reason, you can’t costumize Sir Edmund’s goggles, only Tenzing’s can be worn. And I liked the blue backpack better than the brown one. Wow, it’s really cold up here on Mount Everest! Well, there you have it. Some great and easy costumes to get in Poptropica. Stay tuned for more cool costumes from some of the later island quests in the game. In the meantime, what do you think? Share some of your favorite costumes here in the Comments section!

How to Get the Pomegranate in Mythology Island

Apr30

Pretty much everyone knows by now that Poptropica Mythology Island is now available for everyone to play. One of the big questions that everyone is asking is how to get the pomegranate. You’ll need this item to get into the Underworld and complete your quest for Zeus. Getting the pomegranate is actually pretty easy, but you have to know where to look and exactly how to jump up to get there. Here’s a little step-by-step guide to show you exactly how to do it: First, go to the Garden of the Sphinx, which is to the left of the Tree of Immortality. Jump onto the platform to the right of the sphinx. Jump again to the right to the next platform. Jump up and to the right to land on the platform with the rope and sign for the aqueducts. Now jump up and to the left. Jump up and to the left one more time. If all goes well, you should be standing on a platform with a fruit tree and a sign that says, “Free! You pick ‘em. You keep ‘em.” Jump up to the fruits to collect some pomegranates. You’re on your way to Hades! If the above description didn’t help, check out Part 2 of my full Poptropica Mythology Island Walkthrough video. Skip ahead to 04:50 in the video (about halfway through) to get to the part with the pomegranate tree.

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Zeus

Apr28

The new Mythology Island on Poptropica becomes available for everyone to play tomorrow. For the last few weeks, only paid members have been able to play through early access. All this week here at PoptropicaSecrets.com, we’re helping everyone get a taste of Mythology Island by spotlighting some of the Gods, Goddesses and creatures you’ll meet in this great Poptropica Quest. Zeus There are Gods and then there is Zeus , the most powerful of them all. He rules the domain of the sky, and is often known as the thunder god. He is most famous for his powerful thunderbolts, and ancient Greeks believed he created thunderstorms to exert his power or frighten his enemies. Zeus rules over all the other gods upon Mount Olympus. He was the youngest son of Cronus and Rhea, two of the original Titans that ruled before the Gods. But Cronus learned that his youngest son was destined to overthrow him, so he began to swallow his newborn children whole. Rhea did not want her youngest son to be devoured, so she tricked Cronus by giving him a stone wrapped in a baby’s blanket. Thus, Zeus was spared this horrible (and kind of gross) fate. He was taken away to Crete where he was raised by a divine goat named Amaltheia. Really! Zeus later led a rebellion against his father, and freed his brothers and sisters. Together, they overthrew the Titans and banished them. Thus the age of the Gods began, with Zeus as their leader. Zeus was never known to be a nice guy, and in Poptropica he is definitely determined to get even more power. You’ll first meet him after you find the golden apple on the tree of life, which belongs to him. He stops short of smiting you with a thunderbolt and instead asks you to complete an important quest for him before he will grant you the immortality that the golden apple provides. This begins the first part of Mythology Island, where you try to locate five rare and powerful items for Zeus. But Zeus will betray you in the end and this will lead you on a second quest to get help from Zeus’ two brothers, Hades and Poseidon. Once you have secured their assistance, you’ll take on Zeus himself in an epic final confrontation to save all of Poptropica from his terrible rule!

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Hercules

Apr27

Hercules, who was actually known as Heracles to the Greeks (Hercules is his Roman name) was one of the most powerful and beloved of all the Greek Heroes. He was born the son of Zeus and a mortal woman, and early on showed his strength and survival skills. When he was only a few months old, a jealous Hera sent two serpents to his crib to slay him. But he was later found with both the snakes crushed in his hands and was playing with them as though they were toys. Hercules is most famous for his twelve labors, which were given to him by his arch-enemy King Eurystheus. He was originally given ten labors, but then had to complete two more after the King deemed that two of them were not completed correctly. Among the labors were destroying the Hydra, capturing Cerberus, and capturing the Cretan Bull. Hercules is a popular and strong hero. In Poptropica, Hercules has already achieved his great fame and you must lure him out of his cafe, where he is busy signing autographs. He won’t help you out until after you’ve completed your mission for Zeus and you’ll need to have Aprodite’s mirror before you can convince him to join you. Hercules will assist you with his strength by moving the obstacles that prevent you from getting inside the Underworld and Poseidon’s realm. Finally, Hercules will open the gate to Mount Olympus, where you’ll battle Zeus to save all of Poptropica. In Greek Mythology, Hercules is granted immortality for his heroics and becomes a God, joining the Olympians as the greatest hero of all time. In Poptropica, he has a less fortunate fate. He gains immortality as a statue, turned to stone by the evil Medusa! Hercules turned to stone by the Medusa, but not before he strikes a pose.

Skullduggery Island Confirmed and Sneak Peek

Apr26

The Poptropica Creators confirmed what we reported last week: a new pirate-themed island is coming and it will be called Skullduggery Island . The official Poptropica blog has a very cool-looking wallpaper that you can download. They also created a promotional page for the new island that you can see here . Not many details are given, but the promotional page says: Set sail for adventure! Outwit cunning pirates and battle fierce sea monsters in the biggest Poptropica quest yet. Build your ship. Assemble your crew. Rule the sea! OK, there’s no specific release date given but we do learn some very important things. It will be coming out sometime in May in Early Access. Probably June for everyone else. This quest will be huge. If it’s the biggest one yet, expect it to be longer and more complicated than Astro-Knights Island Once again, you’ll need to be a paid member for early access.

Mythology Island – Spotlight on the Minotaur

Apr26

Only a few more days until Poptropica Mythology Island becomes available to everyone to play. If you haven’t see the Mythology Island Walkthrough yet, check it out to get help with solving this fun island quest. In the meantime, we’ll continue our spotlight on some of the Gods and creatures from Greek mythology that you’ll find during your quest on Poptropica Mythology Island. The Minotaur The Minotaur is one of the most famous beats in all of Greek Mythology. The Minotaur was a creature with the head of a bull on the body of a man and he lived deep inside a giant Labyrinth, or maze, on the island of Crete. He was the offspring of another creature known as the Cretan Bull and of Pasipha

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Poseidon

Apr25

Poptropica Mythology Island will be available for everyone to play in just a few days, and to get into the spirit, I’ve been posting some spotlight articles on some of the major characters from Greek mythology that you’ll meet on this island. Poseidon Poseidon, brother to Zeus and Hades, is ruler of the seas. When he and his two brothers defeated the Titans to rule the world, Poseidon received the seas as his kingdom and domain. He is a moody ruler and in Greek times, sailors feared his wrath in the form of storms, earthquakes and tidal waves. King Poseidon’s not a very happy-go-lucky guy. In Poptropica, Poseidon plays an important role in your quest to stop Zeus from taking over and ruling all of Poptropica. You’ll need Hercules to help you get into Poseidon’s realm, and you’ll need to swim underwater for a bit to do it. Once you get inside, you’ll talk to Poseidon, who will help you by giving you his powerful Trident, which you’ll use in the final battle with Zeus on Mount Olympus. In Greek Mythology, Poseidon had a famous competition with his niece, Athena, over who would rule a city in Greece that they both liked. Poseidon used his trident to create a spring in the ground at the Acropolis. It was impressive, but Athena produced the olive tree, which provided food, wood and oil and was a lot more useful to the citizens. They chose Athena as their patron goddess, and the city’s name became Athens. Back to Poptropica: you’ll get to Poseidon’s kingdom by first leaving a sacrifice at the altar in his temple. The sacrifice is a starfish and you’ll find it stuck to the face of Poseidon’s statue inside the Museum of Olympus. Take that to his temple and place it on the altar to enter his kingdom.

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Hades

Apr24

There’s less than a week to go before Poptropica Mythology Island becomes playable for everyone (right now, only paid members can play). To celebrate the upcoming public launch, we’re doing spotlights on some of the characters you’ll meet on Mythology Island. Hades Hades, God of the Dead and ruler of the underworld, was one of the most feared gods in all of Greek Mythology. In fact, the Greeks were so afraid of him that they refused to call him by name. Instead, most Greeks just referred to him as Pluto . He is the brother of Zeus and Poseidon and when they conquered the Titans, the three brothers divided the world between them. Hades must have gotten the shortest straw. Hades after giving up his crown in Poptropica In Poptropica, you’ll encounter Hades when you visit his realm to get his help in stopping Zeus from taking over all of Poptropica. Before you can get into Hades’ throne room, you’ll need to finish your quest to find five items. Part of that quest will take you into the underworld realm. One of the tasks will be to get a whisker from Cerberus, who is the guardian of the underworld. Later, Hercules will help you get inside the throne room of Hades, where you will meet him and enlist his help. Hades will give you his crown to help you in your fight against Zeus. In Greek Mythology, the crown of Hades was very powerful. It was crafted by the Cyclopes, the powerful one-eyed creatures who were born to Gaia and Uranus. Yeah, I said Uranus. Go ahead and snicker. Anyway, the crown (sometimes it’s called a helmet) was used by Perseus to help him defeat the Medusa. You’ll use the crown to help make you powerful enough to face Zeus in the final battle at the top of Mount Olympus. There’s another important reference to the mythology of Hades in this quest. When you first travel to the underworld, you’ll need to place a pomegranate on Hades’ altar as an offering to get inside. This is a reference to the legend of Persephone, who Hades kidnapped and brought to the underworld to be his wife. She was freed by Zeus, but before she left he gave her a pomegranate which she ate. This bound her to stay in the underworld for part of each year. The legend is that this is the winter-time and her absence from Earth is why nothing grows during the winter.

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Athena

Apr23

Poptropica Mythology Island arrives for everyone in less than a week. Paid members have been able to play it for a few weeks, and you can even get the full Mythology Walkthrough right here . One of the best things about this new island is that it has a lot of real characters and events from Greek Mythology in the island. To help celebrate the upcoming release of the island for all players, I thought I’d do a series of posts on some of the characters from Greek Mythology that you’ll meet. Spoiler warning! I’ll try not to give any important parts of the story away with these posts but if you want all of Mythology Island to be a surprise the first time you play it, don’t read any further! Athena Athena at the top of Mount Olympus You’ll first encounter Athena in Poptropica at the Tree of Immortality and she’ll be a helpful guide as you go on the main quest to locate the five items that Zeus wants you to gather. She’ll also give you help when it comes time to convince Hercules to help you out on your quest. Finally, Athena shows up at the end of your epic battle with Zeus on top of Mount Olympus and will reward you with your island completion medal. In Greek Mythology, Athena is the goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice, and skill (Wow, that’s a lot of stuff for one goddess!) A neat thing about Athena is that when she was born, she sprung fully-formed from Zeus’ head (that must have hurt!) Her mother was Metis, who was Zeus’ first wife. Zeus was afraid that she would give birth to a son more powerful than he was, so he swallowed her up. That’s why Athena was born out of Zeus’ head. Kind of makes sense, I guess. Athena’s main claim to fame is that she was very fond of a special and important city in Greece. She gave the gift of an olive tree to that city, and the people of the city were so happy with the food, wood and oil it provided that they named their city after her. Thus, Athens, the greatest city in all of ancient Greece, was born.
